Pushing the Right Buttons

Yesterday, the New York Times' Jim Larkin wrote a piece about button stances, talking about the extremes between dressing like Fabio and Steve Urkel. Luckily, all of our shirts occupy a very comfortable middle ground, as you can see from our Apolis Activism Military Woven.

Unlike sleeve length or fit around the chest, there's no way for your tailor to change the button stance on a shirt, so the next time you come in to try stuff on, double-check to make sure that you like how you look buttoned up and undone. And if one doesn't work out, don't forget that we've got a ton of other brands, from the easy fit of James Perse's shirts to the more tailored look from Shirt by Shirt.

In Good Taste

Artificial Flavor polo in gunmetal and periwinkle, $60 each

We've got another batch of Artificial Flavor's signature polo in today, this time in a deep gunmetal and a bright periwinkle. Referencing leisure shirts from the 60s and 70s, this polo has an over-sized collar and a snap-close placket for a modern take on an old classic. Double-chest pockets and the assymetrical shoulder strap are the finishing touches on one of the softest shirts we carry.

The adjustable tab system means that Gytha Mander's bowties can accomodate everyone, ranging from a neck circumference of 13.5 inches to a full 16.25 inches. And it's just as easy as finding your size and tucking the adjustable end in.

Gytha Mander bowtie in navy/red. Reversible; depending on which bow you put in front, you can either wear it with the navy/red striped pattern or the dotted pattern.

Gytha Mander bowtie in black/green. Reversible

Gytha Mander bowtie in black/pink. Not reversible.

And in case you don't know how to tie one of these, here's a great instructional video. The real trick is to think of it just like you're tying your shoelaces.

Dad Deserves Better Denim

WeSC Standard, $98

If your dad is stuck in dad jeans (you know the type, high-waisted, light blue wash, way too many pockets), then think about grabbing him a nice pair of raw denim. Certain to evoke memories of jeans from an earlier age, raw denim like the WeSC Standard – as well as our Cheap Monday and Good Society jeans – are dyed with real indigo and washed once for shrinkage. Natural wear and tear will rub out the indigo at specific places, give dad a wash as unique as he is. Also, the darker indigo color makes for a more grown-up pant. Now if only you could get him to give up his sweater vests, too.

For the Dad who has Everything...

(Call for pricing)

People always forget about the great art that hangs on our walls, courtesy of Cassandra Auker, one of the folks at our neighboor Form Modern Vintage, one of the best furniture stores in the East Bay. In addition to slinging mid-century chairs with the best of them, Cassandra's an accomplished artist in her own right and all of the pieces that you see are available for sale. If you're looking for something a little more unique than a sweater or tie, come in and talk to us about getting one of Cassandra's pieces.
