Holiday 2008: Orthodox

We're glad to see that the Orthodox guys have stuck to the slick tailoring and attention to detail that we like so much about them. As always, a lot of the names are the same, but, rest assured, there's plenty of new stuff to get you excited. Click on prices to see more photos or to purchase from the Dapper webstore.

Marquez jacket, $290

Love leather bombers? Hate dry cleaning bills and the hassle of spot cleaning? How does a machine washable, waxed cotton version sound, then? This season, the Marquez comes in a 100% cotton outer with a distressed waxed finished that gives it structure and texture. A full polyester lining and ribbed neck lining provide comfort and extra warmth. Ribbing at the cuffs and hem make this fit nice and snug. With zippers and flaps all over the front, the Marquez has a 8 total pockets. Heavy-duty zip front closure.

St. Augustine jacket, $264

The St. Augustine is a great casual cotton jacket with a full cotton lining that has gone through a great washing and aging process for a jacket that's soft to the touch but still has plenty of shape. Zip front with heavy duty snap storm placket. On the front there are two snap-down flap pockets and three besom pockets. Ribbed cuff and drawstring at hem for fit. Drawstring hood with inset neck to keep your neck toasty. Darted and pieced construction all throughout.

Austen plaid shirt, $141

Crinkled, soft cotton in a subtle brown plaid give the Austen a lived-in look. But, as always, the details are what make this shirt more than a shirt. A double-row of buttons allows for a looser or tighter fit, depending on which set you use. Button-down flap besom pocket at the chest. Double-button barrel cuffs.

Sir Lawrence cardigan in charcoal, $180

The Sir Lawrence falls somewhere between a cardigan and a jacket: the heavy knit with ribbed cuffs and hem say it's a cardigan, but the canvas inserts at the shoulder, placket, and pockets say it's a jacket. The perfect combination of slouch and structure, the Sir Lawrence has an extended heavy-duty snap placket for a high-neck look, but looks just as good draped and left unbuttoned.

Sir Lawrence cardigan in black, $180

The same piece as above, but in black.

Kierkegaard jacket, $305

A parka to end all parkas. Although it's tough to see in the picture, the Kierkegaard is done in a thick, combed cotton that has an almost suede-like hand to the fabric. Full zip front with hidden snap storm placket lead up to a low stand collar with zipper teeth detailing. Subtle military-inspired details come in buttoned cuffs and epaulettes. Drawstring at waist, front hem, and back hem for fit. Two large flap pockets on front. Fulling lined.

Blended from merino wool, angora, cashmere, and a sustainably-produced viscose, the Sameunderneath argyle scarf is a green way to do black and white. This is definitely an equal opportunity holiday pleaser; plenty of our female customers have given it admiring glances. But if this isn't quite what you're looking for, we have tons of other cold weather accessories to help you make sure those stockings are hung by the chimney with care and style. ($70, available in store)

Gift Guide '08: Paul Frank sunglasses

In anticipation of warmer days to come or if you're planning on making a tropical getaway for the holidays, grab a pair of Paul Frank's Craft Engineer sunglasses in olive, a color we've never carried before. Reminiscent of the classic Wayfarer shape, with softer angles and edges for a younger, less serious shape, these sunglasses are totally retro — in a good way. Hand shaped out of zyl-acetate, these shades feature surgical grade stainless steel hardware and come with a carry case. Tropical getaway not included in purchase. ($103, available in store)

Gift Guide '08: Suburban Riot tees

If you've got an eco-centric dude on your Christmas list, then you might to think about grabbing one of Surburan Riot's super-soft tees. But they aren't just a pretty face; the brand is committed to sustainability and uses organic cottons and recycled polymer-based products. Also, 1% of their total sales go directly towards causes that benefit and protect the environment. The solar panels on their latest tees aren't just cool line-art, they're proof that some brands out there really do care. ($40 each, available on the Dapper webstore)

Graphic tees make great gifts, particularly when they're 100% organic like those by Turk + Taylor and feature cool graphics. The Vertigo tee includes foiled printing that adds a cool glister while their hand-screened prints are perfectly imperfect. Cut slim and washed soft, they're perfect for the guy who wants a little more than just cartoons on his tees. ($46, available on the Dapper webstore)

Gift Guide '08: Baxter's Shave Kit

The greatest wardrobe in the world won't do you a lick of good if you aren't properly groomed and put together. But Baxter's three-part shave kit makes it easy to keep your skin smooth and healthy. Baxter's shave cream whips into a rich, clean lather that keeps hairs separated for a better shave. And only real badger bristles can pull up hairs to expose them at the best angle for shaving. Finish it off with some soothing, hydrating after shave balm to prevent redness and razor burn. With three easy steps like that, there's no reason why any man shouldn't be able to keep his face as impeccably put together as his closet. ($60, available on the Dapper webstore)

New Name: Farmer Industry jeans

Farmer Industry specializes in deadstock denim and re-using discarded materials to make jeans that are environmentally-friendly and decidedly unique. They suggest that you wear their jeans for at least 6 months without washing in order to break them in to their fullest for a pair that fits your body and no one else's.

The "Boy" fit in grey, $119 (buy here)

A Dapper exclusive! We loved the Boy fit — a classic cut straight leg with a mid-rise front and back — and asked what washes were available. To our surprise, the folks at Farmer were willing to produce a run in a super soft and smooth fabric. It may feel like it's got stretch in there, but these are 100% pure cotton. White stitching throughout for a subtle finish.

The "Glory" in raw blue, $119 (buy here)

A slim straight leg for guys who want a good pair of everyday jeans, the Glory fit is similar to the Boy, with a slimmer cut through the thigh down the leg. Done in a classic raw blue, the Glory features two color contrast stitching on the pocket.

All Farmer Industry jeans have logo embroidery along the back waist with an embroidered rat celebrating the year of the rat, according to the Chinese zodiac.

Although these jeans are not made using selvedge denim, all inseams are finished with purple and red thread.
