Spring 2009: Artificial Flavor

The first taste of spring comes, appropriately enough, from the boys at Artificial Flavor. For spring, the color palette utilized muted earth tones to focus on the fabric and comfortable fits that they've gotten so good at making. This delivery includes something for everyone, whether you're looking for some basics to fill out your wardrobe or needing to add some polish and structure. Click on prices to purchase from the Dapper webstore.

Storm Hoody, $114

Low key, but high shine, the Storm Hoody is the perfect windbreaker. "Wet" nylon is accented with matte trim, ribbed cuffs and hem, and several pockets for function and flair.

Moto shirt, $80

Light-weight twill shirt that works great as either a regular shirt or a shirt jacket for brisk days. Adjustable cuffs and snap-down neck strap with a grosgrain trimmed pocket.

Snap Front Jacket, $114

A sharp silhouette and slightly cropped proportions give a tough look, but the comfy cotton of this jacket provide an excellent contrast. Angled chest pockets, waist pockets, and buttoned-sleeves give it extra functionality and versatility.

Kangaroo Pocket Hoody in black, $87

Simple zip-up hoody in a slightly washed out black for that lived-in look. Gunflap-inspired detailing at the shoulders and pieced hood construction add the necessary details to make this more than a simple basic.

Kangaroo Pocket Hoody in navy, $87

Same as the above, but in a navy colorway.

Havana Shirt in black, $70

Short-sleeved button down inspired by the guayabera shirts of Latin America. Grosgrain trims, contrast flap chest pockets, and a stiff canvas collar give this casual button down a healthy dose of edgy detailing.

Havana shirt in olive, $70

Same as the above, but in an olive colorway with tonal olive pocket flaps.

Waffle Neck, $75

A carryover from a previous collection, we loved the versatility and subte button detailing on the Waffle Neck that we just had to bring it back.

AF Polo in black, $72

Artificial Flavor's standard AF Polo gets an update with a smaller collar and metal buttons. A great piece for any guy's casual wardrobe.

How Dapper Does Fall

The days are getting shorter and cooler (if you haven't already noticed), and in the store we're all beginning to bundle up. Here's a selection of some of our favorite things for fall.

Layers

If we're obsessed with anything, it's layering. This fall, even layers go luxe with super soft fabrics and detailed construction. Artificial Flavor's T-neck ($75) updates the standard waffle knit henley with an extended placket and extra seaming. Take your favorite hoodie, add ultra-soft organic Supima cotton and you've got B. Son's shawl collar hoodie ($103). Or you can stand out in the crowd with Orthodox's Kipling shirt, a cool blend of soft knit and structure woven fabrics ($149).

Coats

There's really nothing better than throwing on your favorite warm, thick coat right before you head out into the cold. But if you're tired of your plain peacoats and ordinary overcoats, we've got plenty of new options. The first thing we noticed about Orthodox's Chaucer coat ($286) was the cool dip-dye treatment, but there's tons to this garment, including a one-and-a-half breasted front, zippered sleeves, and quilted lining. Or you can opt for something more rugged like the Converse by John Varvatos waxed cotton bomber ($295) lined in jersey with leather detailing. And Sameunderneath's knit blazer ($218) comes in a thick, comfy cotton/polyester blend with cool details like functional cuff buttons and contrast buttoneire stitching.

Extras

Don't forget the little things! These Converse by John Varvatos rubberized hi-tops ($125) are perfect for rainy days; it's like water off a duck's back — literally! Keep your head warm in Urban Legend's beanie ($30), with a special stitch in the back for the perfectly slouchy look. Plain Gravy's cotton flannel scarf ($58) combines comfy, casual fabrics with sophisticated patterns. And don't forget that winter wind can dry your skin out, so keep Baxter's Oil-free moisturizer ($18) on hand to stay moisturized.

Fall 2008: Artificial Flavor

Flak jacket, $155

Taking their cue from military flak jackets, the guys at Artificial Flavor have stripped away the bulk for a simple, clean look. Snap-covered front-zip, rivets, 4 front pockets, wrist strap, cotton/spandex shell, cotton/nylon lining.

V-neck in grey, $39

V-neck in black, $39

When it comes to basics, Artifical Flavor goes for the "less-is-more" approach. Simple v-neck t-shirt made from 100% cotton with faux-raglan seaming.

Waffle knit T-neck long-sleeve, $75

This long-sleeved tee, done a soft cotton waffle knit, has an extra-long button-up neck for bundling up when it's cold. But the moment it warms up, undo them for a relaxed, sleek angled collar. Extra button detailing.

In Good Taste

Artificial Flavor polo in gunmetal and periwinkle, $60 each

We've got another batch of Artificial Flavor's signature polo in today, this time in a deep gunmetal and a bright periwinkle. Referencing leisure shirts from the 60s and 70s, this polo has an over-sized collar and a snap-close placket for a modern take on an old classic. Double-chest pockets and the assymetrical shoulder strap are the finishing touches on one of the softest shirts we carry.
